Ok, so you decided that using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan is the way to go for painting your kitchen cabinets and I couldn’t agree more. But now what?
Color and Finish - Picking the right color and finish. I always ask my customers to show me an inspiration picture of a kitchen they love – Pinterest is perfect for this. Then I ask to see a picture of their current kitchen. This helps to get a clear vision of possibility and allows us to talk through how the inspiration pic can translate to their kitchen.
Now when it comes to the finish there are 2 options….Chalk Paint® Wax or Chalk Paint® Lacquer.
I love using Chalk Paint® Wax, it has a luxurious hand feel and just looks rich. It protects the Paint and is super easy to clean and maintain.
Chalk Paint® Lacquer is another really great option and is gaining a good bit of popularity due to its easy of application and instant superb protection. Lacquer gives a more enameled look and comes in both Matte and Gloss.
Now that you have picked out your color and finish your ready to go!
Wait, let’s talk what tools you need to be successful. Nothing is more frustrating than getting started than realizing that you’re miss a key tool. So, let’s break it down.
- Paint Brushes – I recommend 2. Annie Sloan's bristle Chalk Paint® Brush 1 small brush (to get into corners and navigate the smaller areas) and 1 medium brush to take care of the larger flat surfaces on the doors and draws.
- Sanding Pads – perfect to smooth out the painted surface as well as distress if you planned on adding any detail in your cabinets.
- A Staging area to paint the doors. I use long folding tables where I can comfortably navigate around to paint – this way I am not touching the doors a whole lot while painting and waiting for the paint to dry.
- An Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Wax Brush (if you plan on waxing)
- Clean, lint free cloths to wipe excess wax off
- An Annie Sloan Foam Roller (if you have decided to lacquer instead of wax)
- A Chalk Paint® Flat Brush (if you have decided to lacquer)
